The Mackinaw is an online journal of prose poetry, founded by Lorette C. Luzajic, founding editor of The Ekphrastic Review.
Every Monday, a selection of prose poems by one author posts. Occasionally, there will be interviews or craft features posting on a Friday.

Who are we? What are we?
Many writers and readers declare prose poetry the most delicious of all poetry, and yet others say it doesn't even exist.
The objective of The Mackinaw is simple: to celebrate prose poetry, in the present as well as its history and its future, and provide a space to publish, read, and discuss this wonderful genre.
The Mackinaw launched on January 15, 2024. It has been our privilege and pleasure to publish many luminaries of prose poetry history, as well as many new and emerging voices.

Founder and Editor
Lorette C. Luzajic is a Toronto-based writer. editor, publisher, educator and artist with a formal education in journalism at Ryerson University. She has had a lifelong passion for poetry and literature and for art history. She founded The Ekphrastic Review in 2015 and The Mackinaw in 2024. She reads and writes essays, flash fiction, and prose poetry, mostly ekphrastic. Her books The Neon Rosary (Cyberwit Books) and Pretty Time Machine (Mixed Up Media Books) are prose poem collections, and The Rope Artist, and Winter in June, and Disgust are flash collections with prose poem tendencies throughout. Two of her works so far have been selected for Best Small Fictions, and she has been nominated several times for Best Microfiction (winning a spot in 2026), Best of the Net, and the Pushcart Prize, and seven times for Best American Food Writing. A few of her many curiosities and interests include collage, outsider art, archeology and artifacts, folk beliefs, Mexico City, birds and fish, cats, detective shows, silver, beads around the world, international cuisine, and more. Lorette divides her time between running two journals; writing; teaching visual art, art history, and creative writing; and working as a collage mixed-media artist. Saad Ali is a bilingual poet-philosopher, literary translator, educationist and mgmt. consultant from the UK and Pakistan. He has authored seven collections of poetry, including Owl Of Pines: Sunyata (AuthorHouse, 2021). He has translated Lorette C. Luzajic’s selected ekphrases into Urdu. His poems & micro/flash fictions appear in an array of multidimensional literary journals/magazines and anthologies, including The Ekphrastic Review, The Mackinaw, Lothlorien Poetry Journal, BRAWL Lit., Jackdaw Review, The Aleph Review, The Haiku Shack Magazine, among others. His poetry has been translated into Arabic. His work has been nominated for the Best of the Net, Best Microfiction, and Best Small Fictions.
